When we feel threatened we automatically respond in 1 of 3 ways - fight, flight or freeze.
We may freeze initially to decide whether to fight or flight (run away). Unfortunately after freeze you only have fight left as you have nowhere left to run to (flight) due to the lockdown.
Is your patience getting shorter? Your stress levels increasing? Are you more anxious than usual? This may be due to the lack of defences you have available to you.
Counselling can provide you with that safe space to understand what is going on for you at your own pace.
The current situation may have brought up past fears or issues that you would like to work through once and for all.

How it works
We can work together over the phone or online. Online is similar to Skype or Facetime.
Online and telephone have been proven to be just as effective as face to face sessions but there are a few differences.
You need a laptop, smart phone or tablet with access to the internet. I use a website called Doxy.me for online sessions. You do not need to download any apps for this.
I will send you a link for the session by e-mail. At the scheduled time you click on the link, follow the onscreen prompts and you will be taken to a virtual waiting room. Once you are waiting, I am alerted and we can begin our session.
If you would like to do a quick trial run of Doxy.me before your session let me know and we can arrange this.
I cannot guarantee your privacy at your end so I would ask you to consider this if you live with other people including any furry creatures (my dog likes to be the centre of attention and would be very disruptive if I let him into sessions). Can everyone get by without you while you are in your session?
If you are concerned about others overhearing you can use headphones. Others cannot hear my end of the conversation. If you are stuck for a space, do you have a car? You could stay in your drive, or drive somewhere quiet, scenic even but please make sure you are parked for the session starting. Don’t connect to your car’s Bluetooth system, we’ve all passed by people having a conversation over Bluetooth and you hear the full conversation.
If you are staying in your house for the session think about removing any phones from the room, silencing your landline or anything else that may cut in and disturb your session. I keep my phone nearby until we are connected online in case you are trying to reach me before the session. Once we are connected I either move it out the room or turn it completely off.
Is the device you are using fully charged?
Have a think about where you would be comfortable for the duration of the 50 minutes while having a good signal. If the signal was to drop or you had issues with your broadband we can move over to a phone session. Please make sure you give me a number you would feel comfortable having the duration of the session on. If you would rather make contact with me first that is not a problem. We can have a discussion about this beforehand.
Have a tea, coffee or water with you so you do not dry up from talking a lot. Is there a chance you may get upset? Have some tissues too.
If you are using your phone can you put it on do not disturb to stop any other apps interrupting or distracting you?
Be aware of the disinhibition effect
This can cause people to open up quicker than they would if we were in a face to face situation. This is not a bad thing but if you feel this has happened let me know and we can spend an extra 5-10 minutes before the session ends discussing this and bringing you back to the here and now.
Once the session ends you are immediately in your home. Think about some self-care for yourself once the session ends; quiet time or family time, your favourite music or a funny TV programme, some time with a pet, something relaxing. You know what works best for yourself so consider how you may manage this.
As the sessions are not done face to face, payment can be made by bank transfer 24 hours before our session.
